Week of 5 Apr — 11 Apr

What did you do this past week?

I completed my project for Symbolic Programming and also worked on phase 3 of the project. I tackled down an user story issue, which was adding a footer, and added a search bar to our navigation bar.

What’s in your way?

Filtering and sorting seems to be a lot more difficult and complicated than expected and choosing what to filter and sort by is giving my team a lot of issues. I also accidentally cut my finger pretty bad when making breakfast and it’s making it hard to type. I know this phase is due this week, but I also have an exam this Thursday so I must balance and allocate time for both SWE and studying for the exam.

What will you do next week?

I will continue to work on and complete phase 3 with my teammates! We need to work on filtering and sorting, which seems like a big part of this phase. I also need to study for my chemistry exam this Thursday.

If you read it, what did you think of the Why getter and setter methods are evil?

I was familiar with getter and setter methods from other previous classes and never thought much about them and how they are good/bad for OOP. However, the article gave a good and clear explanation on this.

What was your experience of select, project, cross join and theta join? (this question will vary, week to week)

I never had any experience select, project, cross join and theta join but found the lecture, examples, and exercises to be very helpful and informative! I see how these methods can be useful when filtering through lists.

What made you happy this week?

I am a big dog person so being able to dog sit my friend’s dog made me very happy! I also took some time to bake brown butter chocolate chip cookies with my friend and they turned out pretty well! I am also glad that I was able to finish my other class’ project.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is small shortcuts such as pressing alt + lines of code to put a cursor on multiple lines, and that you can drag and drop highlighted parts of code to cut and paste them! I found these to be super useful and can help save a lot of time — especially since we spend a lot of our time coding!
