Week of 1 Feb — 7 Feb

What did you do this past week?

I began Collatz and got a chance to explore and use Docker and GitLab! I’ve also been rewatching the lectures as a good overview of the project.

What’s in your way?

I had a hard time running Docker on my windows machine and spent a few hours trying to figure it out. Thankfully my peers and the TA’s were very helpful on Piazza and I was able to figure it out.

What will you do next week?

I plan on finishing up Collatz and I also have a Chemistry test this week so I will be studying up on that!

If you read it, what did you think of the Continuous Integration?

I found the reading to be very informative and clear in explaining what CI is, how it works, and why it is useful. I have heard of CI in the past in my internship, but this reading really taught me why it is useful as a way to communicate and share parts of a project to have it be consistently developing.

What was your experience of Collatz?

I have not had any experience of Collatz so I am excited to be more familiar with it and to see my familiarity with it grow through time!

What was your experience of exceptions?

I have used and seen exceptions in some of my programs, but never looked and thought much about how it changes the flow of the program. In the most recent lecture on Friday, we discussed how exceptions are handled and talked about what parts of a code would be run if an exception is caught or not.

What made you happy this week?

I was able to get my program working for another CS class and although it was very frustrating at first, I’m happy that I was also able to figure out running Docker on windows.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I would say that my tip of the week is to use and interact on Piazza! I feel like being online makes us feel alone and forget that we have other peers and TAs that are there for us if we ever need help. Often times, we are not the only one facing an issue and its helpful and comforting to see posts about similar problems. This really meant a lot to me when I was struggling with Docker.
