CS373 Spring 2021 Blog #6: Regina Chen

Week of 22 Feb — 28 Feb

What did you do this past week?

Due to the storm, I was able to rest and catch up on some sleep and schoolwork. I was able to meet up with my SWE groupmates on Zoom to organize and start on the project by discussing topic ideas!

What’s in your way?

I’m still pretty new to using a Git repo that is being used and updated by so many people. It’s been a little bit of a struggle getting familiar and comfortable with it all. I still find myself getting scared of somehow messing up the repo, but look forward to gaining the familiarity and confidence with it all as I use it more.

What will you do next week?

I plan to continue working on and finishing up the first phase of the project with my groupmates!

If you read it, what did you think of the Single Responsibility Principle?

I found the article to be very informative and liked the diagrams that were used to explain SRP. I was a little bit confused about how to actually identify the responsibilities, but understand the purpose and usefulness of separating them out.

What was your experience of IDB1 and reduce?

As I slightly hinted earlier, I am not too familiar with working on such a large project from scratch with so many people so this is definitely out of my comfort zone but I have been learning a lot through this experience so far. I have been working on the front end of the site, and have learned a lot about react so far!
Reduce was pretty simple and I enjoyed meeting and collaborating with my classmates.

How did you fare in the storm?

Thankfully, my apartment was not too affect by the storm and we had electricity and water throughout the storm. We were able to house a few friends, and also had some fun outside in the snow. I also slipped on ice twice, haha.

What made you happy this week?

Seeing people outside and playing in the snow made me happy! I feel like I haven’t seen campus as lively as it was in a while.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

The Git documentation is very informative and gives very thorough explanations on its commands! I’ve been finding it very useful and informative for this project.
